Regisseur, Drehbuchautor, Schriftsteller, Musiker, Musikproduzent und
Mitbegründer der nigerianischen Filmproduktion. All diese Begriffe
versuchen dem vielseitig Begabten gerecht zu werden. Der streitbare
Regisseur Ola Balogun hat – stets zwischen Dokumentar- und Spielfilm
oszillierend – Hauptwerke des nigerianischen Kinos geschaffen. Zwischen
1972 und 1982 drehte Balogun, bevor in Nigeria die „Nollywood“-Welle
begann, insgesamt zehn Spielfilme. Obwohl seine Spiel- und
Dokumentarfilme gern auf Festivals gezeigt werden ist er außerhalb
Nigerias inzwischen so gut wie nicht bekannt. <b>Jetzt liegt zum ersten Mal
weltweit ein Buch in englischer Sprache über diesen außergewöhnlichen
Künstler vor.</b> Anlässlich seines 70. Geburtstages im August 2015 hat sich
das Filmkollektiv Frankfurt dem Werk und der Person dieses “großen
Unbekannten“ angenommen. Dabei herausgekommen ist ein sorgfältig
editierter Band mit 10 AutorInnen, die sich mit profunder Kenntnis dem
Filmmacher und der Magie seiner Filme in ihren Texten annähern.<br>

Es werden Kurzfilme und Ausschnitte aus Ola Baloguns Filmen gezeigt, darunter <b>AJANI-OGUN</b> (1976), <b>CRY FREEDOM</b> (1980), <b>IN THE BEGINNING...</b> (1972) und <b>IRON EAGLES</b> (1987).<br>

Außerdem wird Musik aus den Soundtracks zu Baloguns Filmen zu hören sein.<br>
