Das ehemals kommunale Gaswerk ist heute jedoch nicht mehr im direkten Eigentum der Stadt, sondern wurde in eine eigene Geschäftsstelle – die Neu Leopoldau Entwicklungs GmbH – ausgelagert; mit dem Auftrag, die 13 Hektar große Liegenschaft als neuen Wohn- und Arbeitsraum samt Parkhäusern gewinnbringend zu verwerten.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:0cm;margin-right:2.5pt;margin-bottom:10.0pt;margin-left:0cm;line-height:115%'>Gegen diese rein betriebswirtschaftliche Nutzung und Verwertung regt sich nun Widerstand von Seiten der regionalen Initiativen KiT (Verein Kultur in Transformation) und dem CIT Collective. Denn durch die rein kommerzielle Nutzung bliebe kaum Spielraum für zukunftsorientierte kulturelle und soziale Entwicklungen, so KiT und CIT.
